This year MMGG joins other MG and British car clubs to celebrate the anniversary of the birthday of MG Car Company founding father. As the first general manger of the MG Car Company he led the transformation from a Morris dealership, first to The Morris Garages Ltd., and later to the M.G. Car Company. Cecil Kimber was born on April 12, 1888 and to celebrate this we invite you to the first Cecil Kimber Birthday drive on Saturday April 17.

From the MG Car Club Facebook page:

Happy Birthday to the Father of MG, Cecil Kimber, who was born on this day in 1888. Kimber was born in London, and in his youth was a keen motorcyclist until an accident saw him move from two wheels to four.

He became Managing Director of MG in 1930, a year after the firm moved to Abingdon. Kimber was instrumental in making MG the force it would become, with a global reputation for engaging and affordable sports cars. His untimely death in 1945 is still regarded as a tragedy amongst fans of the marque.

Kimber's attitude of what made MG special is best summed up with one of his famous quotes: "The secret and charm of an MG is the way they handle. Whether you're dawdling along enjoying the spring sunshine or shaking out a reef and making the knots along an empty arterial road..."

Some details are still being worked on, but this is the early plan we know already. This should be about a 2 hr 19 min drive (106 miles)

We’ll meet at 10am at the Lookout Trail Scenic Outlook, Oak Park Heights, MN 55082 about .8 miles South of the Oasis Cafe, 806 Main St S, Stillwater, MN. This scenic outlook is facing the now not so new Stillwater bridge. Expect a 10:15 am Drivers Meeting for a 10:30ish start. From there we will go this way and that way. Starting mostly South towards to Hudson so we can wave at the Britfest location, then on to Red Wing where we will be crossing back into Minnesota. Please continue to follow all CDC COVID precaution guidelines when out of your car.

Expect to stop at a park or somewhere, (hopefully) with a restroom, for a stretch, or fuel near Redwing. If you have not brought a sack lunch now might be a good time to pick up something. Then on to our final push to the cake!

Finish at the Glewwe's Castle Brewery, Prior Lake, Minnesota.  As this is a root beer brewery they do not have food. Enjoy sitting outside to eat a snack or lunch that you may have bought or brought, washed down with various samples of excellent root beer, also for sale. Or with with some other refreshments, not for sale, to sample with a free will offering.

And best of all…we’ll have a Cecil Kimber birthday cake for dessert.

For anyone interested in Cecil Kimber's life, there is an excellent biography on his life titled: "The Kimber Centenary Book". It was published on April 12, 1988 by The New England MG "T" Register, Ltd. Edited by Richard L. Knudson with an Introduction by Frank E. Churchill. Jean Kimber Cook (Cecil's daughter) is one of the many major MG icon contributors.

Sad news for all from Chad and the organizing committee.

    Hello All,

The Rendezvous 2021 Organizing Committee is disappointed to announce that they have decided to cancel the 2021 Rendezvous event that was scheduled to take place this June in Kenora, ON. We had hoped that things would improve to the point where it would be feasible to still host the event, but with the travel and gathering restrictions that are currently in place, and  no indication of when they may be relaxed, we felt this was the most prudent course of action. We would like to thank everyone for their patience while we waited and evaluated the situation.
For anyone that is still registered, we will be issuing a refund shortly. The hotels have been notified that the event has been cancelled, but we suggest that you call to cancel your reservation to ensure you aren’t surprised by any unexpected charges.
We are sorry that the pandemic situation has not improved to the point where we could hold the event. We are hopeful that things will continue to get better and we will be able to once again gather for Rendezvous in 2022. Stay tuned for information about that event from the Rendezvous 2022 organizing group.
    Thank you,
    Chad Edwards

    • Harrah’s Atlantic City

All events listed below are subject to change at present. The event website and online registration form will have current information and pricing for all activities. We also have a Facebook Group, https://www.facebook.com/groups/3336095969744088/ (the group name is MG International – Atlantic City 2021) , that we recommend you join.

The event officially begins on Monday, June 14, 2021 when registrants will be able to pick up their event packets (or register if they’ve not yet done so), but we recommend that you arrive on Sunday (or Monday morning at the latest) in order to explore the Boardwalk, the Absecon Lighthouse, and other attractions that Atlantic City has to offer.

Monday evening we will have our traditional “Welcome!” gathering, this time at Harrah’s at the indoor pool area and outside patio. You will want to attend this event to meet up with friends that you may not have seen for a while or perhaps to even make new friends. You will have fun!

Tuesday and Wednesday registrants will find numerous tech sessions to attend at Harrah’s as well as self-guided tours of the area. We will also be offering motor coach tours to the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia, to historic Philadelphia, and to historic Cape May, NJ on these days. We may be offering same to some wineries in the area. Our “silent auction” will be conducted from Monday through Wednesday at Harrah’s.

There is a possibility of cooking demonstrations/classes, beer and wine tastings, as well as classes on casino gaming…more later on these topics!

Tuesday evening is “Register Night” which will be held at Caesar’s Atlantic City on the Boardwalk. Transportation will be provided or you can drive to Caesar’s from Harrah’s and park free in their garage. There will be a “meet and greet” happy hour prior to the registers splitting off to their own banquet rooms.

Wednesday evening is a “free” night for you to discover other nearby attractions and restaurants such as “The Knife and Fork Inn” or perhaps “Gordon Ramsay’s Pub & Grill” at Caesars…..you could even grab a beer and a Nathan’s Hot Dog to enjoy on the Boardwalk!

Our popular vote car show will be held on Thursday at the Atlantic County 4-H Fairgrounds. Each Register will have their own area on the fairgrounds and classes will be subdivided amongst those areas. There are restrooms and other buildings on the grounds; food will be available on site.

We also plan on offering motor coach transportation to historic Philadelphia and Cape May on Thursday for those of you not wishing to attend the car show at the fairgrounds.

Thursday evening is our Awards Banquet at Harrah’s. As in previous years, each Register will have their own “pre-awards banquet” where most of the individual class awards will be handed out. We will then enjoy a banquet feast at Harrah’s before first place awards are presented and other recognitions are made.

We will bid adieu to Atlantic City on Friday morning.

We hope you will save the date now….as you will NOT want to miss this gathering of MGs by the sea!
